This is a walk-thru for character creation for a Smallfolk, Hillfolk, Wildling, or Non-Noble Foreigner concept. In an effort to make the creation process as easy as possible, we provide nearly everything in copy and paste formats to take from the wiki here, into the game. Please make sure that the character is in the right room in the creation in the game.
Title
It's much rarer for Smallfolk to have titles, usually, it's for military or other similar organizations where you'll find titles attached to Smallfolk Names. There is no Mr., Mrs., Mz. or Miss in theme.
Do not put anything if you don't have a title. In the game, type one of the following:
+title Captain
+title Infantryman
+title Cavalryman
+title Officer
+title Deputy
+title Apprentice
+title Journeyman
+title Master
+title Guildmaster
+title Madam - As in the woman in charge of a brothel.
Name
Most Westerosi names are Saxon-originated (or passably so) English names with one or two consonant sound substitutions, ("Edward" to "Eddard") or a vowel shift ("Jeffrey" to "Joffrey") and it is preferred that this pattern is used to construct names. Smallfolk only have a first name. If they have a second name it's either a nickname that has stuck with the person or family through the years or the family was once actually nobles and fell from grace. Smallfolk names are also less likely to have the shifting of sounds and vowels and are much more likely to be the real common names like Bob, Mary, Peter, Jess, Michael, Susan, James, Helen, Harry, Linda, etc.
For the character's name, (Replacing the <>s and NAME with character's first name) in the game, type:
+name <NAME>
Fealty
This entry covers the Westerosi Region that the character originated from or that which they've sworn fealty towards. It is preferred that characters be from The Reach. As it lends an ease to the reasoning for being in Oldtown. But Oldtown was selected as the setting for its hub of activity and diverse metropolitan ways. So nobles of all regions but Dorne are welcomed. Please speak with staff if you wish to play someone from Dorne.
Please explore the dedicated pages to each of the regions for deeper details on the who's, whats and where.
In the game, type one of the following:
+fealty The Reach
+fealty The Crownlands
+fealty Dorne
+fealty The Iron Islands
+fealty The Reach
+fealty The North
+fealty The Riverlands
+fealty The Stormlands
+fealty The Vale
+fealty The Westerlands
Faction
Faction covers which noble household the character works for, or the Business they manage, work for or run.
In the game (Replacing the <>s and EXAMPLE with character's Faction), type:
+faction House <HOUSENAME>
+faction Oldtown Watch
+faction Shermer Smithy
+faction Appleblossom Teahouse
+faction Bawdy Bard Brothel
+faction Beesbury Hive Farm
+faction Thieves Market
+faction None
Status Rank
Even among the non-nobles there is a bit of a hierarchy in Westeros. Top among them is the:
- Smallfolk: The general populace of Westeros.
- Hillfolk: Uncooth savages that roam the wilds of the mountains of Westeros. Mostly in the North but there are a few rumors of Hillfolk in the Dornish Marches that act as the border between The Reach and Dorne.
- Wildlings: Wildlings are extremely rare in the south (and thus will be scrutinized for approval). They tend to keep to their lawless, rebellious, crazy ways north of the Wall.
- Foreigners: Non-Westerosi, these people are usually from the Free Cities and are visiting or settled down in Oldtown. They face the most prejudice than the others above because they not only don't follow the King's Rule, they aren't even Westerosi!
Choose one of the following, and in the game, type:
+rank Smallfolk
+rank Hillfolk
+rank Wildling
+rank Foreigner
Occupation
The following list is smallfolk appropriate occupations. An important note for female characters; this theme in the way of occupation is very man heavy. While the smallfolk women don't have the high 'doesn't do much to lift a finger' pedestal noble women are placed on, they still face the Medieval Male Biases. A general rule is the poorer or salt of the earth the profession the more likely it is that you'll find women doing it alongside their brothers, fathers, and husbands. Things like fighting and hunting though are still thought of as things for the men to do. Smallfolk women appropriate occupations are in Purple.
