Before the War of Conquest, the golden coins of the Reach were known as hands. They still exist in some number, with each hand coin roughly half the value of a dragon coin.

Gold Coins

Copper groats and stars and silver moons are rarer coins than copper half-pennies, copper pennies, and silver stags. You are more likely to be carrying 10 pennies than a star and two pennies, or have 201 stags in a sack rather than 30 moons in a purse.
