Demographics

This is the General Demographics room information, in this room in the game you will set up things that would be the same for any path in life. The next stage focuses on those paths taken.

Please use the commands below, in the game, to set up your character.

Gender

OldtownMU acknowledges every gender identity that can be named. Everyone is welcome to pick the gender that best fits the character. What needs to be kept in mind is that there may be in-character consequences to being a non-binary gender. Westeros isn't as progressive as one might wish. The setting is written in a way that explores a very medieval mindset about gender, gender roles, and sexuality. There are exceptions, such as Dorne, but it is just that: an exception.

Out of character, the game is a very safe place for everyone of all persuasions and preferences. Just please be prepared to play to the theme and expect consequences for anything outside of the Westerosi norm. Also please keep in mind that body reassignment surgery is not available in the theme.

@sex me=<Male or Female or Intersex, etc.>

Description

This is what your character looks like in written form. While the actor and wiki pages help give visuals of what a character looks like, this is still a MUSH and requires levels of reading for immersion and the written word also allows for details that a picture can possibly not display.

There are two ways of inputting a description in game. The @desc method or the coded Descer system that's in game. The @desc method is simple, but easy to lose descriptions because of the overwrite nature of the command. The Descer System allows for storage and layering of descriptions.

Note: %R in descriptions acts as a carriage return and %T acts as indents for paragraphs.

The staff knows how tricky it is to figure out how tall a character of a certain age should be or how much they should weigh, etc. Below is hopefully useful tables in aiding with this up in the air decision making for your characters desc.

Description Mad-Lib Template

Staff knows that it's sometimes a challenge getting what you see in your head or in a picture into worded form. A tool that some of the staff use when making NPCs and/or Roster characters is a template with fill in the blanks area to help make the process faster/easier. It is not a perfect template and needs to be refined after the initial entries, but we just want to make the tool available for those that might be interested in using it.

Age

On Oldtown MUSH a character cannot be younger than 10 years old, or older than 99.

Birthdays are selected randomly by the code. But if a certain date is important, such as with twins, triplets, quadruplets, etc. or with realistic timing between siblings, Staff can go in and manually fix it.

+age <Age> (Birthdays are selected randomly, but can be changed by staff.)

Actor

Every character must have a unique PB (portrayed by) — sometimes called a played-by, faceclaim, body cast, or actor — to cast as your character, as if Oldtown MUSH were a movie. PBs must be people who have deliberately placed themselves in the public arena, such as actors, models, comedians, YouTube personalities, etc.

When choosing a PB, try to select someone that resembles your description (or easier still, model your description on your PB). Particularly when it comes to child characters, try to use images of your PB that are at least close to the age of the character.

Series Actors

Since the game is based on the HBO series, the actors used in the show are generally off limits. Actors that played minor characters or characters that were later recast may be permissible. Please consult with staff if you are interested in using such an actor.

Wealth

Every noble House has a Wealth level, a member of that household cannot start the game with a wealth level higher than their House Wealth Level. Unless staff is consulted. There are six Wealth levels, non-nobles cannot take above Wealthy, they are:

  • Destitute: Usually denizens of the Undercity in Oldtown. Those with this level of wealth do not get housing, instead, they can have Tent/Lean-to/Crate objects to live in. Beggar's Ghetto or the Undercity itself is the place to drop these objects. A destitute person has no constant or stable income.
  • Poor: Ragpyker Wynd is the area for those who are poor in Oldtown. Farmers, Laborers, the real physical jobs usually pay enough for a Poor person to survive, but it's often not a pretty life. Sometimes a few different poor families live in the same place to make ends meet. Least it's not the Beggar's Ghetto.
  • Comfortable: Craftsmen, merchants, servants to noble houses and that level of profession tend to live comfortably. They can afford a home in Oldtown Square, or maybe are lucky enough to be given a servant's room at their noble's home. For a noble to be below this level of wealth they have truly fallen on hard times. This is typically the lowest level for nobles to be at.
  • Wealthy: This is the richest a member of the smallfolk can get! Courtesans, Master Craftsmen, Guild Leaders, the cream of the crop of the Smallfolk. For the nobility, this level is what Comfortable level is for the smallfolk. Sphinx Street is the neighborhood for the richest of smallfolk, and nobles that care for a more austere area. Minor Houses often have this level of wealth. The only Great House to be a bit tucked out of the way in the Whispering Wharf area is the Greyjoy Manor.
  • Rich: River Road with its views of the river and the space for gardens and courtyards makes for a luxurious area for Rich Nobles to live and shop. Major Houses often have this level of wealth. Because noble houses must pay the Citadel to earn a Maester assignment, this is the level required for a House to have their own Maester.
  • Opulent: Houses like the Lannisters, Targaryen, and Tyrells, never need concern themselves with how much things cost. The Great Houses of Westeros nearly all have sprawling estates on Beacon Boulevard in Oldtown. Or for the Hightowers, Targaryens, Tyrells those three take up entire islands in the Honeywine River off of Hightower Bridge.

Lastwill

Lastwill is what you want to happen to your character should you leave the game or idle out, eg: "Dies dramatically," or "Returns to Dragonstone" or "Takes the Black." Or if you want your character added to the Roster. If you leave this blank, the staff will choose, and anything might happen.

Important Notes - Optional

Any key things you'd want people to know at a glance. Please keep this brief so things don't get too spammy! Perhaps things like marital or parental facts. This section is completely optional!

&notes me=<Text>

Now that the generalities of your character have been determined, it is time to choose their path in life.
If they are Noble, including noble-blooded Bastards, go to Noble Creation by typing: NC Smallfolk, including wildlings, hillfolk, and non-noble foreigners, type: SC Maesters of the Citadel, walk the path to: MC Godsworn, those who are members of clergy of any of the many gods, go to: GC
